Born in Adelaide, South Australia, Angus Mason is a contemporary drummer and composer based in Brooklyn, New York. Over the past decade, Mason’s practice has seen him work extensively as both a band leader and a sideman and, in turn, he has risen to be a prominent voice in the Brooklyn jazz scene.

Mason has toured extensively across Europe, USA and Australia and has shared the stage with prominent artists such as Will Vinson, James Muller, Jo Lawry, Julien Wilson, Sam Anning, Yuhan Su, Caleb Curtis, Noah Garabidien, Simon Willson, Max Light and Neta Raanan. He is a long standing member of the Justin Salisbury Trio and the Daniel Bereket Quintet. He has also been an active performer in both the Australian and New York alternate music scenes recording with Carla Lippis’ Mondo Psycho and Rosina Bullen.

He has been the recipient of many prestigious awards including: A Helpmann Fellowship in 2018, a Carclew Fellowship in 2017 and the Mike Stewart Memorial award in 2016. In 2018 He was also a finalist in two of Australia’s most prominent jazz awards, the National Jazz Awards (in which he placed second) and the Freedman Fellowships.

He has a Masters of Music from Manhattan School of Music and a Bachelor of Music with 1st Class Honors from Adelaide University.
